The book chosen must be in the historical fiction genre (adult or young adult). By historical fiction, it needs to be set in the 1960s or earlier, and the time period featured noticeably (I would not consider books like The Night Circus historical fiction since while the author might state a year it starts in, there is no other evidence of a historical setting).

When I was in my teens, the Mrs. Peabody series was my favorite. Then I can remember picking up Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett when I was 20 and it was incredible. Since then, I can't break free of hte historical fiction grip.

I really liked reading Paper Woman by Suzanne Adair. It's set in American Revolutionary times in the South and combines a lot of genres and is a great book!

I really loved La Nuit du Sérail by Michel de Grèce ! It's set in the 1800's and tells the story of Nakshidil, a French girl who became Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. It is about a real person, but very little is known about her, so it is not entirely fiction. It's definitely my favourite historical novel! I'm also beginning to read The Sealed Letter, and I like it a lot already.
