Classics Club List

I've heard mentions of The Classics Club, but seeing Wallace's post about it this morning, I finally I had a look. 50 classics in 5 years, that doesn't seem unreasonable. So I put together a list. There's some plays, novels, and some non-fiction and mythology books. Ones with (r) are rereads.

Now I can't start now, so I am setting my start date as December 1, 2012, making my end date December 1, 2017. I've set up a nifty spreadsheet to make updating the list easy, and I'm going to add it as a page (linked up top).

So, do you participate in Classics Club?

I am not participating but I certainly like to look at the lists. Makes for nice ideas for a new book.

It does, especially if someone has interest outside the western world. I had trouble trying to google some outside of Europe and North America. Hopefully some other club members know of them. We did enough dead white guys at school, I want to expand.

Ooh nice! Five years does seem a reasonable time. I actually want to be able to read all of Shakespeare's works.

Awesome list. I've been toying with the idea of doing this for a while, but I recently had such a bad experience with Middlemarch that I decided to take time off from classics. When I'm feeling more confident I'm sure I'll jump in, eventually. :)

Me too, but reading all of Shakespeare will be a one day kind of thing. I think the trick will be making sure to make time for some classics. I never really got to any this year, except In Cold Blood.

Thanks!

I get the impression from people on Shelfari who've read Middlemarch that it is quite an investment to get through it.

Yeah, Shakespeare would have to be a special event. Not sure when I'll dedicate the time to his works.
