Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Broke and the Bookish. This week's subject are books on our Fall 2013 TBR list.
In no particular order,
1. Antigoddess by Kendare Blake :: I loved Anna Dressed in Blood. Antigoddess is a twist on Greek Mythology, and I'm a sucker for mythology retellings.
2. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey :: Our next book for the YA book club, and I'm looking forward for it.
3. Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein :: Code Name Verity was fantastic, and I've been hearing this is just as fantastic.
4. Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas :: Loved Throne of Glass, so I ran to the launch party for this the day I got back from vacation. Unfortunately I haven't been able to read it yet.
5. Deception by C.J. Redwine :: Loved Defiance, so I can't wait to get into this as well.
6. Bones of the Lost by Kathy Reichs :: I'm a sucker for the Temperance Brennan series, so I usually try to read them soon after release.
7. The White Queen by Philippa Gregory :: I am in mood for fluffy historical fiction that might play a bit fast and loose with history. Do not judge me.
8. The Bat by Jo Nesbo :: I really enjoyed The Devil's Star when we read it for book club. This is the first book in the series.
9. The Plantagenets: The Warrior Kings and Queens Who Made England by Dan Jones :: Between the discovery of Richard III's grave, and the White Queen, seems like a good time to brush up on the history of the period.
10. A Feast for Crows by G.R.R. Martin :: I've been spreading these out because of reasons.

Audiobook Week- Mid Week Meme
Day three of Audiobook week hosted by Devourer of Books. Just a quick run through since I need to head off for work.
Current/most recent audiobook:
The Rook by Daniel O'Malley, Narrated by Susan Duerden
Impressions:
It is an interesting story premise, but I am finding that I need to do something where little thinking (ie. no report or blog writing) to listen to it.
Current/most recent favorite audiobook:
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. I am so glad I listened to Sheila and Jen's recommendation of this one!
Favorite narrator you’ve discovered recently:
I really enjoyed John Pruden, who narrates The Sisters Brothers. He had the perfect sound for an old West set novel.
One title from your TBL (to be listened) stack, or your audio wishlist:
1776 written and narrated by David McCullough
Your audio dream team (what book or author would you LOVE to see paired with a certain narrator, can already exist or not):
Keith David narrating Ragtime by Doctorow would be pretty grand, at least in my head.

TGIF: Most valuable book
Forgive me for two memes in two days, but I'd been waiting for Book Blogger Hop to have a question like this, but found another one asking it! I will have small review up later today.

Most Valuable Book: From your personal collection of books, which ones hold the most value to you - is it signed by the author? or maybe it's your favorite story of all time? Share it with us.
For purely historical value:
Surpised? If you have trouble reading it, it is Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-Tung. My uncle lived in San Francisco for a while, and this was one of the books he had. It is a second edition of the Foreign Language Press from 1967, and has a US Distributor: China Books & Periodicals stamp on the title page. My mom has no idea why her brother had it, but this one was well traveled and I think he was the history buff of her family. I've never read it. I just like it for the age, condition and reflection of the history of the time.
For signed books:
My first first signed copy of A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. I loved the book, and was so glad to get it signed.
Honorable mention:

three Shakespeare plays publsihed by Macmillan between 1900-1925

Monday Musings
Did you do any reading in lieu of watching the football game, yesterday, or were you foregoing reading to watch the game? If you read a book (or books) what did you choose?
I *hate* American Football, and there is too much painful things (annoying sport, bad halftime shows, bad commercials...) for the rare few decent commercials. So my tv stayed off yesterday. Instead I worked on my audio library book binge, and listened to Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. Needed to finish it so I could upload a few new ones to the device before my work trip.

Top Ten Sequels I'm Dying to Read
I read a great deal of series, I seem to get stuck in some long ones, so this will be repeated somewhat from last week's list.
1. The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan I preordered it last summer, but have yet to read it.
2. A Breath of Snow and Ashes by Diana Gabaldon My next one in the series. There was a mention of Jaime and Clare in Into the Wilderness, and I've been wanting to pick it up since.
3. Dawn on a Distant Shore by Sara Donati I pretty much inhaled Into the Wilderness when I checked it out. So when I found a near mint copy of the second book at the library sale, I snatched it up.
4. A Clash of Kings by G.R.R. Martin Been itching to pick this up since the tv series ended
5. Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness A Discovery of Witches is still my favorite book that I've read this year. I am eagerly awaiting release of the second book hopefully next summer.
6. Crossed by Ally Condie Loved Matched, so this will be one of the highlights of November.
7. Inheritance by Christopher Paolini Been looking forward to the end of this series.
8. I Shall Wear Midnight by Terry Pratchett Wintersmith was one of the first Discworld books read, and probably part of the reason I picked up Wicked Lovely. This was one of my Borders finds.
9. Beat to Quarters by C.S. Forester I have a thing for Regency set military. The Hornblower series was one of the first I started, but I haven't read any since I started using Shelfari. I've had this since then, but haven't read it.
10. A Murderous Procession by Ariana Franklin I love the Mistress of the Art of Death series. Its like the book (and original) Temperance Brennan set in the medieval period. This is the final book in the series, unless another is discovered in Diana Norman's papers, since she died earlier this year.

Book Blog Questionaire

1. How often do you post and how often do you visit other blogs?
I aim for posting atleast once a week, but clearly that doesn't happen. Every day when I get on the computer one of the first things I check is Google Reader. I use that to keep up with the blogs.
2. Do you always comment, or do you only comment when there is a contest?
I comment when I have a comment to make, or to enter a contest. If the only kind of comment I have is somthing like "I completely agree" or "This sounds good", and that's the entirety of the comment, I'm not posting it
3. When you "follow" a blog, do you always go back and visit or are there some that you only followed for a contest?
As previously mentioned, I check Google Reader daily. It automatically adds the google friend connect people, and then I manually add the ones who don't.
4. How often do you enter book giveaways?
I enter when the book is of interest to me. And if I've happened to win one at a particular blog, I won't enter there for a little while, just so others have a chance.
5. How long have you been blogging?
I started my Livejournal back in 2004 I think it was. Activity varied at times, but never wrote about books until I converted this (had started this back in 2004 because of the Browncoats forum, then converted it to a backup when LJ going whacky)
6. Do you have book giveaways, how often, and why do you do it?
No I haven't yet. Maybe if I get an arc I want to share, or hit a landmark follower number
7. What other booky sites do you belong to?
I use Goodreads, Shelfari, LibraryThing. I have a BookJetty but I kind of gave it up. Also tried weRead via facebook, but I stopped that once I started Goodreads.
8. How often do you use "Bookish Memes"?
Occasionally. Some I've seen done are a bit redundant. Mostly I just do the Mailbox Monday.
9. What do you like or dislike about some blogs?
Dislike is the huge amount of crap (note: I tend to use crap as meaning stuff, not necessarily the percieve quality of something) some stick in their sidebars. Each image takes up server space and bandwidth every time the page is loaded. So if visiting a blog with 2 sidebars and 50 images in each on my laptop or Nook Color, they take ~*FOREVER*~ to load. And not even getting into those who are still truckin along with dialup internet.
10. Have you gotten close to any bloggers, just through blogging?
A little bit, for some of the LJ ones. Some of those met on a Harry Potter forum, and they were the ones who got me to sign up for LJ in the first place.

10 Things about Books and You
Stealing this from Wendy @ Wall-to-wall Books, who got it from Weekly Geeks.
1. I have a compulsion that all my books within a series shall match. Doesn't matter if its hardcover or softcover, but the series must be uniform. There have been a couple times, where I've acquired part of a series (2 of 3 of LOTR at the library sale, and 5 of seven of Narnia as a gift, but second year on my list) and have not been able to get the missing books for, so I have turned to Ebay to find the missing matching of the set. Yes, I am like that.
Occasionally, if I love a series that is in paperback, I will upgrade it to hardcover (for durability's sake) if I can acquire them cheaply (many thanks to Barnes and Noble's clearance section).
2. I rarely find a used book sale I didn't like. Whether its a used book store, or a library sale, the majority of the time I come home with a new book. But when there's a never been read hardcover of Michael Crichton's Next for 25 cents, how am I to resist?
3. I belong to three public library systems. One each for the city and county I live in, and another in a city nearby where I do a lot of work and shopping in. The latter is just to take advantage of their Overdrive system. Great thing about California libraries (atleast those in So Cal), is you just have to be resident of the state to get a card, not the city or county the particular system is in. Which means I will likely join a couple more for their Overdrive systems.
4. If I see a movie that I like is based on a book, that book will make its way to my tbr list. Given my love of period dramas, my tbr list is very large.
5. I am a bit of a magpie when it comes to bookmarks. If someone offers a free one, I'll take one. I've got a large collection of them, most of which live in a collectors mug for easy finding. My mom has aided the collection by getting me unusual ones when my parents are off on their travels. Some of those are are metal one, a wood one, and a string one with pretty glass beads.
6. Reading hardcovers leads me to the internal battle of removing the dust jacket while I read and getting finger prints on the boards, or leaving the dust jacket on and risk damaging it.
7. I take a book or sometimes a magazine with me where ever I go, to the movies, work, doctor's office, out to dinner with family, visiting family...
8. I get a secret joy of freaking out non-readers or the casual readers with the monstrous tomes I read.
9. I am an ereader convert. I hated the idea at first, and its still not the same as reading a book. But its an easy way to carry around a bunch of books, and don't have to hold it open, so it works really well if you are trying to read while eating. But I'm not going to give up real books. Ebooks are still awfully expensive given I don't get a tangible item to hold for something $2-3 cheaper than I can get a real book.
10. I typically read the following genres: history; historical fiction; science-fiction/fantasy, including young adult sci-fi/fantasy; and classics. I read a tiny bit of mystery, which usually are Kathy Reichs books, but my neighbor has tried to get me started on some that she reads for her book club. I'm not really into Chick-lit, romance (Outlander and Phillipa Gregory are the closest I go towards that), anything with a religion qualifier, (classic mythology is ok. I'm just not a religion type of person), biographies, or current events. I don't even really want to read much on WWII since it just feels too recent.
The idea is simple. Tell us ten things about you with regard to books and reading. Let your imagination run wild!
For instance: New or old? Hard back or soft? One or lots at a time? Bookmarks or not? What genres? What authors? Favorites? Habits? Stuff you like. Stuff that bugs you.
I think you get the idea. You don't necessarily need to use my thoughts above of course. Those are just to get you started. And when you are done, we should be able to get a nice big picture of your reading/bookish personality.
